Course Descriptions

Private Instruction:

We believe that private lessons are an essential component in the process of learning music. Private instruction allows teachers to tailor their lessons according to the skills and abilities of each student, to monitor their students' technical progress step by step and to develop their musicianship and creativity through a better understanding of their artistic personality.

Theory:

As a language, music has its own grammar. Theory classes will provide a complete knowledge of musical notation, as well as a thorough introduction to ear training. A deep knowledge of theory is necessary to become not only an accomplished instrumentalist or singer but also to be fully prepared for harmony, composition and sight reading classes. Theory classes are divide into three levels.

Music Magicland™:

This program created by Dr. Micheline Charpie and Professor Jean-Pierre Schmitt is especially designed for very young children age 2 1/2-4. It combines basic rhythms on small percussion, movement and coordination and songs as well as the first steps of violin study.

Children's Choir:

The joy of making music with others can be discovered from the very beginning of musical studies through joining one of the choirs offered at The French-American School. Under the guidance of Ms. Askins, children will learn how to use their voices with proper posture and breathing, develop musicianship skills such as pitch and rhythm, and build confidence in their musical abilities.

Children's Ensembles/ Adult Chamber Ensembles:

For either a child or an adult, a beginner or a more advanced student, chamber ensembles are a very important supplement to private lessons. In developing their ability to play music with others, students not only refine their sense of pitch, rhythm and dynamics, but also learn a great deal about composers, styles, and repertoire.

Mommy & Me:

This class offers parents and their little ones an enjoyable introduction to dancing and moving together while developing rhythmic skills and body awareness.
