After
graduating from the National Conservatory of Versailles and the International
Conservatory of Paris, Mr. Schmitt, violinist and violist, devoted his
career to teaching at the Conservatory Paris V, and the Conservatory Paris
XV. He performed as a permanent member of the Concerts Lamoureux and served
as the artistic director and conductor of the International Orchestra
of Paris. Mr. Schmitt has combined his passion for teaching with his career
as a performer. When he was still a student, his teacher used to ask him
to substitute for her whenever she had to cancel a lesson. This early
teaching experience was to sow the seed of a dream of starting a music
school, a place where each student would develop his musicianship in a
nurturing environment. When he came to the US in 1988, he found the ideal
environement in which to create the music center of his dreams. Surrounding
himself with teachers with the same expectations, he founded the French-American
Conservatory of Music, now the French-American School of Music. The school
has since grown to more than 150 students. New programs, including programs
for very young children, have recently been added. The school now offers
a wide range of instruction. In addition to working as executive director
of the French-American School of Music, Mr. Schmitt is also the conductor
of the French-American Chamber Orchestra, and was featured many times
as the conductor of the Macedonia Philharmonic in Skopje.
